This is a fairly common condition among adults with Cerebral Palsy. It is difficult to identify as many of the symptoms mimic Cerebral Palsy and other related conditions.
Symptoms of Post-Impairment Syndrome are:
- Weakness due to muscle abnormalities, bone deformities, overuse syndromes and arthritis
- Increased pain
- Repetitive strain injuries
Persons with Cerebral Palsy use more energy than able-bodied persons in regular activities of daily life. This can result in Post-Impairment Syndrome. Working with an occupational therapist, being vigilant with strengthening the muscles and stretching daily are the best ways to avoid developing this problem.
